KRYSTLE DOS SANTOS

Award-winning performer Krystle Dos Santos is a Soul and Jazz singer-songwriter and definitely an artist to watch for. Dos Santos’ self-titled debut CD recently took home Urban Recording of the Year at the 2009 Western Canadian Music Awards. Her unique blend of dance beats, funky grooves and soft, jazzy soul have inspired comparisons to modern Soulstresses Sade, Joss Stone and Jill Scott, as well as the jazz greats of the past such as Etta James and Billie Holiday.

Armed with a performing arts certificate and a background in theatre, Dos Santos is a versatile performer with a stage presence that has been described as both commanding and powerful. Dos Santos’ uses a full band, and seamlessly moves from one musical genre to another, effortlessly mixing musical styles resulting in an extremely unique modern fusion. Pair this along with Kyrstle’s larger-than-life personality and sultry, smoky voice and you have a live show that is dynamic, interactive and unforgettable.

Comfortable in intimate or full-blown arrangements, Krystle has performed on many major stages across Canada ranging from The Whistler International Film Festival to the Edmonton International Jazz Festival. Having recently toured Western Canada as well as showcasing her music across the country, Dos Santos has an eclectic appeal that is soon to break out to international audiences.

Dos Santos’ self-titled debut embodies a mix of classic jazz and soul that sounds very fresh and classic at the same time. Her influences include Nina Simone, Etta James, Prince and more recently Janelle Monae, Gnarls Barkley and Erykah Badu. Krystle has recently completed her sophomore album entitled Fame Fatale, creating a new sound dubbed “electro-soul”; combining electronic, urban beats, live instrumentation, soul vocals and an indie-pop vibe due out in early 2011.
